Public Criminal Prosecution Initiated Against Azerbaijanis. They Have Been Detained

The Investigative Chief Department of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has accepted the request of the supervising prosecutor regarding the criminal case initiated against a group of individuals. On April 11, 2023, a decision was made to initiate public criminal prosecution against Azerbaijani citizen Agshin Gabil Babirov for committing publicly dangerous acts by illegally crossing the state border of the Republic of Armenia in collusion with a group of individuals and illegally transporting weapons and military ammunition across the state border while hiding from customs control, under part 2 of Article 469 and part 1 of Article 340 of the RA Criminal Code. On the same day, the investigative body presented charges against Agshin Babirov. The Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction has chosen detention as a preventive measure against the accused.

On April 14, 2023, the supervising prosecutor approved the request of the investigative body. A decision was made to initiate public criminal prosecution against Azerbaijani citizen Huseyn Ahlimani Akhundov for engaging in publicly dangerous acts by illegally crossing the state border of the Republic of Armenia in collusion with a group of individuals, illegally transporting weapons and military ammunition while hiding from customs control, and illegally possessing and transporting firearms in collusion with a group of individuals, under part 2 of Article 469, part 1 of Article 340, and part 2 of Article 335 of the RA Criminal Code. On the same day, the investigative body presented charges against Huseyn Akhundov. The Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction has also chosen detention as a preventive measure against the accused.
