VIDEO: How a Turkish Weightlifter Lost Consciousness at the European Championships in Yerevan

During the European Weightlifting Championships held in Yerevan, a Turkish weightlifter lost consciousness after an unsuccessful attempt to lift the barbell. Following immediate medical assistance, she was carried out on a stretcher amid applause from the crowd.

The 2023 European Weightlifting Championships is taking place from April 15 to 23 at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex in Yerevan, with a total of 389 athletes from 40 countries participating.

The official part of this significant sporting event commenced on April 15, where the first day of competition featured women in the 45 kg and 49 kg weight categories.

In the 45 kg category, Turkish athlete Çansu Bektaş secured first place with her lifts of 72 kg in snatch and 90 kg in clean and jerk, totaling 162 kg in the combined event. The second place went to Romania's Cosmina Pană with a total of 153 kg, while Spain's Marta García also reached a total of 153 kg, finishing third.

On the first day of competitions, women in the 49 kg weight category also competed for medals. Romanian representative Valentina Câmpeanu became the gold medalist with a new European record of 195 kg in the combined event. She was followed by Italy's Zulya Imperio, who recorded a total of 183 kg, and Ukraine's Angelika Lomachiska finished third with 176 kg.
