Iran and Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministries Announce Possible Continuation of Negotiations

The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran have announced the possibility of continuing negotiations and visits during a phone conversation amidst rising tensions between the two countries. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the press service of Azerbaijan's foreign ministry.

On April 14, Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov and Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian discussed the current state of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Iran during their phone call. The parties stated their hope to continue negotiations and to conduct bilateral visits if necessary, the press release noted.

The relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, which have experienced multiple crises in recent years, have reached their lowest point. Recently, the foreign ministries of both countries exchanged notes accusing each other of aggressive rhetoric.

In the last two months, more than 50 people have been arrested in Azerbaijan on suspicion of espionage in favor of Iran.
