Court Allows Gagik Khachatryan to Leave Armenia
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction has permitted former head of the State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan to leave Armenia. The information was shared with Sputnik Armenia by Lilith Shaboyan, head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Supreme Judicial Council.
“A motion was filed with the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction to allow Gagik Khachatryan to temporarily leave the country for medical assistance, based on his health condition. The court has granted the motion,” said Shaboyan.
It was noted that Khachatryan had not appeared at the court session held on March 22 due to health problems. Earlier this year, on January 18, the court had allowed him to travel abroad for treatment. He was absent from the country from January 20 to February 10, 2023.
It should be reminded that Khachatryan has been charged with embezzlement of millions of dollars, bribery, and money laundering, involving an amount of $41 million.
According to the prosecution, Gagik Khachatryan, the former Minister of Finance and former head of the State Revenue Committee, along with 25 individuals connected to him, faces a property confiscation procedure for illicitly acquired assets, including 210 real estate properties, 60 of which are located in Yerevan.
The prosecution also demands the confiscation of 14 vehicles, shares in 33 companies, and over 40 billion drams in cash. Among the properties subject to confiscation is a luxurious villa belonging to the former official, located in Los Angeles.
