Azerbaijan Appeals to International Organizations Regarding Missing Soldiers in Armenia

It was reported that on April 10, due to adverse weather conditions, two Azerbaijani army soldiers lost their way and strayed off the path in the Shahbuz district of Nakhchivan. Later, one of them was discovered in the Ashotavan community of Sisian and was arrested.

The State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons of Azerbaijan stated that they, along with other relevant state bodies, continue the necessary search operations related to the missing Azerbaijani soldiers. “Considering that the soldiers are presumably being held in Armenian territory, an official request regarding their release has been sent to the appropriate international organizations. Additional information will be provided to the public,” the State Commission announced.

Notably, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had stated the day before that the arrested Azerbaijani had confessed to fleeing due to humiliations and torture experienced in the Azerbaijani army. According to the Prime Minister, Armenia has international obligations regarding this matter, and if a person found in such a situation does not wish to return, they cannot be forcibly returned. Pashinyan also hinted that the still-missing Azerbaijani soldier might have returned to Azerbaijan.

It is noteworthy that another Azerbaijani soldier has been found and arrested on the territory of Armenia.
