Prohibition of Smartphones for Soldiers Will Prevent Betting Activities, Says Deputy Minister of Defense

Prohibiting soldiers from using smartphones will also prevent the process of placing bets, which has become widespread. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Defense Arman Sargsyan during a presentation of amendments to the "Disciplinary Regulations of the RA Armed Forces" and the law on "Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel" in the National Assembly.

He noted that the legal restrictions are complemented by a ban on using smartphone-type mobile phones in any place of service, except in cases established by an order from the head of a state authorized body.

"The carrying of smartphones will be prohibited not only for soldiers serving at combat posts or positions but also within military units. Due to the use of 'smartphones' with internet access, the enemy can conduct localization through technical means. In addition, they can be used to fall for traps proposed through social networks, becoming involved in various issues," Sargsyan said.

It is noteworthy that the amendments to the laws also stipulate a ban on participation in gatherings in military uniforms or other public protests, as well as a prohibition on making individual or collective political calls. It is also forbidden to disseminate and discuss information, videos, and photos that evidence the activities or locations of the Armed Forces or the presence of oneself or other military personnel via the internet or media, with the exception of official publications.

For contracted military personnel, there is also an opportunity to extend service for up to ten years after reaching the maximum service age, by one additional year each time.
