Leak of Secret Documents Leads to Crisis in US Allies Relations
Following a massive leak of Pentagon secret documents, senior US officials are attempting to reassure shocked allies—from Europe to the Middle East and Kyiv, reports Politico.
Officials from London, Brussels, Berlin, Dubai, and Kyiv have started raising questions to Washington regarding how the classified information ended up on the internet, who is responsible for the leak, and what actions the US is taking to ensure that the information is removed from social media.
The leak has precipitated a crisis in US relations with its allies, and it remains unclear how Washington plans to rectify a situation that many are already calling one of the largest failures of American intelligence since the publication of secret documents on WikiLeaks.
It should be noted that American media discovered more than a hundred secret documents on social media last week. Some of these pertain to military aid provided to Ukraine by the US and its allies, as well as preparations for a counteroffensive from Kyiv. Others contain information regarding the Middle East and China, as well as details on partner oversight.
