‘My candidacy is not the best’: Rector of Armenian-Russian University resigns

The rector of the Armenian-Russian University, Armen Darbinyan, is stepping down from his position. He announced this on his Facebook page.

Darbinyan noted that his term as rector ends on May 14. “I had applied to the co-founders of the university (the governments of Armenia and Russia) expressing my willingness to be re-elected for another five-year term, asking for their support. However, I did not receive such support from either side. I assume that new problems have arisen in the new geopolitical situation, for which my candidacy is not the best choice. In this sense, I completely agree with both parties,” he wrote.

The rector of the Armenian-Russian University emphasized that although the entire staff had nominated him as the sole candidate, he will not participate in the elections.

Reflecting on his future activities, he mentioned that he does not rule out the possibility of creating a private university, which would require financial investments.

It is noteworthy that Darbinyan has held this position since 2001.
