US Secretary of State Blinken: A Ceasefire Between Russia and Ukraine is Currently Impossible
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has expressed that a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine is impossible as long as certain Ukrainian territories remain under Russian control. Blinken has called on Moscow to come to the negotiating table.
“For some, the idea of a ceasefire may be tempting. However, it would essentially legitimize the seizure of Ukrainian regions. In this case, there can be no talk of a fair and lasting peace,” the Secretary explained.
Yesterday, the Russian Foreign Minister, speaking in Ankara alongside his Turkish counterpart, noted that Russia does not reject negotiations but insists that they can only occur if Russian interests are taken into account. “Statements are coming from Kyiv, Washington, and Brussels that military operations should not cease. At the same time, we are being asked to stop the war and sit at the negotiating table. This is an unfair game,” Sergey Lavrov stated.
