Turkey Plans to Supply Gas to Europe with Azerbaijan
Turkey aims to jointly supply natural gas to European countries alongside Azerbaijan. This announcement was made by Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Donmez, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“Azerbaijan is a country with significant investments in Turkey. Their national company, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic), is one of Turkey's largest investors. This collaboration will also be realized in a third country. New forms of cooperation will emerge. BOTAŞ and SOCAR (Turkey's and Azerbaijan's state companies) have established a new entity.
We will be supplying gas to Europe. We have stated that we aspire to become a trading hub for gas. Azerbaijan also supports this idea. Balkan countries are demanding gas from us and Azerbaijan. We will work together on this issue,” said Donmez in an interview with CNN Türk.
It is worth noting that the energy crisis in the European Union intensified in early July 2022, when the first disruptions in gas supplies from Russia to several EU countries occurred, including due to technical maintenance issues related to turbines for the “Nord Stream” as a result of sanctions imposed against Russia.
Furthermore, the West increased sanctions pressure on Russia due to the situation in Ukraine, which led to a rise in electricity, fuel, and food prices in Europe and the USA.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is the long-term strategy of the West, and the sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the global economy. He noted that the primary objective of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. Russia has repeatedly stated that it will resolve all issues that the West creates for it.
