Risk of Collapse for Bridge Built Over Yeghgis River, Ministry of Internal Affairs Reports

On April 7, the Vayots Dzor regional crisis management center received information that there is a risk of collapse for the bridge built over the Yeghgis River on the Getap-Martuni highway. This was reported by the rescue service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia.

An operational group from the regional rescue department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been dispatched to the scene, led by the head of the rescue department.

Representatives from the regional governor’s office, the urban development department, the transportation department, and the road department were present at the scene.

It was determined that at the 7th km of the Getap-Martuni highway, at the initial section of the bridge's retaining wall over the Yeghgis River, the flow of the river has caused a soil slide approximately 27 cubic meters in size, leaving about 13 square meters of asphalt layer without a soil foundation. Thus, there is an imminent risk of collapse.

The rescuers have cordoned off the most dangerous section of the highway. The road segment is currently limited to one-way traffic. Officers from the regional police have been assigned to monitor the situation.
