Israeli Citizen Killed in Bakhmut Battles
An Israeli citizen, Rodion Vainer, has died while fighting on the side of Ukraine in Bakhmut. This was reported by the Israeli publication Mako, citing his family.
Vainer left behind a wife and a 4-year-old daughter in Israel. He passed away in early March 2023, but his family has only recently granted permission for the publication of this information. The soldier was 26 years old, holding the rank of sergeant, and was participating in battles with the 77th Airborne Brigade.
Prior to the events in Donbas, Vainer fought in battles in the Kyiv region, notably at the Hostomel Airport. Originally from Kryvyi Rih, he served in the Israel Defense Forces after returning to Israel and lived in the city of Carmiel.
He is the fourth Israeli confirmed killed in the conflict, according to reports. Mako noted that several Israeli citizens have died in Ukraine in 2023, but their families have not permitted public announcements of their deaths.
Since the beginning of the conflict, it is estimated that about a thousand Israeli citizens have fought in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed forces, per Mako.
