Is that failure correctable? I assume so: Kocharyan on Azerbaijani advances
The Chairman of the National Assembly’s Defense and Security Committee, Andranik Kocharyan, has admitted that there is a failure on their part regarding the recent events in the village of Tegh. According to NEWS.am, he stated, “Is that failure correctable? I assume so. People living there should feel secure, knowing that the army is beside them and that all our law enforcement agencies are present. Right now, we are discussing that they should leave that area, and then we will discuss equal-level withdrawal.”
Kocharyan emphasized that the euphoric state of Azerbaijani forces following the 44-day war continues, but he does not believe it can last for long, especially as Armenia cannot delay its military reforms. “The restoration of our security system will lead to a reduction in their desires or appetites. What is ours is ours, and if they do not understand this, there will come a day when they will.” He expressed confidence that they will eventually leave Armenian territory.
When asked who would bear responsibility for this failure that allowed Azerbaijanis to enter Armenian territory unchecked, the committee chairman replied, “Let’s wait. As the committee chairman, I expect to receive clear answers about whether we are at fault or not. If we are, then where have we faltered? If we do not assess and eliminate the deficiencies, such incidents will continue. The failures should have been prevented starting from the local authorities, and security bodies. While Pashinyan is the Prime Minister, we have bodies in place that should ensure a stable process for problem-solving.”
Kocharyan also added that certain laws have been adopted, specifically regarding the territorial defense forces, allowing local residents to possess weapons. “There will come a day when all of this will become a unified system, but until that day comes, such events will occur,” he concluded.
