It is Time for NATO to Retire, Says Zakharova

The actions and statements of NATO indicate that security and the North Atlantic Alliance are incompatible concepts, leading to the conclusion that it is time for the alliance to retire. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commenting on the results of the NATO Council meeting at the ministerial level held in Brussels, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“The alliance has nothing to boast about; NATO allies have a backdrop of wars, devastated nations, unpunished war crimes, murders of civilians, and destruction of civil infrastructure. Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya. Who’s next?” Zakharova stated.

NATO representatives continue to claim that it is a defensive alliance, Zakharova noted, despite the organization's entire history suggesting otherwise.

“And now we see how NATO, seeking to appropriate the entire European security system, is once again expanding towards Russia, creating threats to our security. Finland has become another victim of the North Atlantic Alliance. The authorities of this country decided to abandon their long-term neutrality in exchange for turning it into a frontline zone, becoming a platform for containing Russia in the northwest direction,” Zakharova said.

NATO has no intention of stopping, and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg is increasingly speaking about the alliance's global role, emphasizing that it should go beyond its traditional zone of responsibility—the Euro-Atlantic, said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“In fact, there is a basis being created for the widespread imposition of NATO-based approaches to the construction of regional security systems. This leads to the supply of weapons to Ukraine and the encouragement to continue the war with Russia, attacks on China, flirting with Japan and South Korea, and military plans for the Arctic. Everything is being done to make the world even more dangerous, to prevent the existence of alternative power centers capable of undermining Western hegemony. Overall, it can be confidently asserted that security and NATO are incompatible concepts. In this regard, only one conclusion arises: at the age of 74, it is time for the North Atlantic Alliance to retire,” she concluded.
