Has Muradov Been Dismissed for Failures on the Ukrainian Front? Intelligence Report
The daily report from British intelligence discusses the possible dismissal of Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov, commander of the Eastern Military District. The authors of the report state that the rumors about Muradov's dismissal, which have recently been circulating actively on social media, are likely to be true.
The 'Vostok' grouping, which participates in the invasion of Ukraine under Muradov's command, has suffered tremendous losses in recent months, as attempts to capture Ugledar have repeatedly ended in failure.
Muradov has led the 'Vostok' grouping since the very beginning of Russia's invasion, following failed attempts to assault Kyiv from the northeast. Currently, he is the highest-ranking military official dismissed in 2023.
However, he is unlikely to be the only one, as Russian forces continue to struggle to meet the objectives set before them in Donbas, conclude the authors of the report. It is worth noting that Muradov has been the deputy commander of the Southern Military District since 2018 and led the Russian peacekeeping forces in Artsakh from November 2020 to September 2021.
