Bulgaria Closes All Ports to Russian Ships

Bulgaria's authorities have decided to close all of the country's ports to Russian ships as part of the EU's sanctions measures. This was reported by PortSEurope. The ban will take effect on April 8 and will apply to vessels registered in the Russian maritime registry.

Back on April 17, 2022, Bulgaria had already prohibited entry into its ports for ships sailing under the flag of the Russian Federation. This measure was part of the EU's fifth package of sanctions.

Now, the ban is being expanded to include Russian ships sailing under flags from other countries.

It is worth noting that Bulgaria's Ministry of Defense has recognized the military aggression of the Russian Federation as the most immediate threat to global peace, stating that the Russian army is committing systematic military crimes in Ukraine.

Nevertheless, official Sofia has stated that it is compelled to partially refrain from sanctions against Russia.
