Azerbaijan Bans Import of Over 446 Tons of Kiwi from Iran

Azerbaijan has banned the import of over 446 tons of kiwi from Iran, according to Azerbaijani media, citing local regulatory authorities. The fruit was found to contain pests.

Earlier, oranges imported from Iran were rejected in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani media reported that according to the results of examinations, the oranges were found to contain the citrus tristeza virus.

The decision to ban the import of kiwi and oranges from Iran comes amid a new escalation in Iran-Azerbaijan relations, which began after Baku's announcement regarding an Iranian military plane flying near the Iran-Azerbaijan border. Following this, Iran's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mousavi, was summoned by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on March 11.
