US Announces New $2.6 Billion Significant Aid Package for Ukraine

The US Department of Defense has announced plans to send a new tranche of military aid to Ukraine, which will include weapons and munitions. This was reported by РБК, referencing a statement from the White House website.

According to Pentagon plans, the new aid package will include munitions for HIMARS rocket systems and Patriot air defense systems, artillery strike systems, anti-tank systems, small arms, as well as vehicles and equipment necessary to support the Ukrainian army on the battlefield, totaling $500 million.

The package, characterized by the US Department of Defense as crucial, will be funded by the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), a Pentagon program that allows the agency to purchase weapons and supplies directly from manufacturers rather than releasing them from its existing stockpiles.

Under this program, $2.1 billion will be allocated for the procurement of air defense equipment, artillery, tank munitions, mortar systems, missiles, and anti-tank systems.

The statement also highlights specific types of weapons being prepared for shipment to Ukraine. In particular, the Pentagon will send 23 million artillery rounds, 3,600 artillery weapons, three air defense radar systems, ammunition for the NASAMS air defense system, 120 and 105 mm tank rounds, 155 and 105 mm artillery shells, various calibers of mortar accessories, TOW and Javelin anti-tank systems, grenade launchers, fuel and transport trucks for heavy equipment, nine systems with 30 mm automatic cannons for countering drones, precision-guided aircraft missiles, secure communication systems, and satellite communication terminals, as well as repair and recovery vehicles, among others.

Additionally, part of the funding will be directed towards military training and maintenance.
