Poland Plans to Expand EU Observer Involvement in Armenia

On April 3, Armenian National Assembly President Alen Simonyan received a delegation led by Radoslaw Fogiel, head of the Poland-Armenia Friendship Group. During the meeting, both sides noted the dynamic development of relations between the two countries.

President Simonyan emphasized that inter-parliamentary cooperation is a crucial format in Polish-Armenian state relations, highlighting the effective collaboration between the friendship groups of both parliaments.

The meeting discussed several issues related to regional security. Speaking about the elections scheduled in Poland for 2023, the Polish partners assured that these would not impact cooperation with Armenia or the agenda issues, particularly emphasizing Armenian-Polish cooperation within the Armenia-EU framework.

The Polish partners noted that they consider Armenia a member of the Eurofamily and are closely monitoring the steps taken in our country. Both sides also placed great importance on constructive collaboration between parliamentary delegations of the two friendly countries within international parliamentary assemblies.

President Simonyan particularly highlighted the deployment of the EU observer mission along the border with Azerbaijan, stating that it is favorable for ensuring security, stability in the region, and building trust on the ground. “We are also aware that Poland plans to expand the involvement of observers in the mission by mid-year, which is highly welcome for us,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, President Simonyan stated that Armenia is committed to a peace agenda in the South Caucasus and hopes that Azerbaijan will align its actions and rhetoric with its declared goals of peace and cooperation in our region. In this context, he mentioned the resolution adopted by the Polish Senate regarding the blockade of the Lachin corridor, calling for the immediate reopening of the corridor without preconditions. “We expect our partners to condemn illegal and inhumane actions, including the implementation of sanctions against Azerbaijan,” said Alen Simonyan.

The head of the Poland-Armenia Friendship Group conveyed to Alen Simonyan an invitation from the President of the Polish Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, for an official visit to Poland.
