Hearing Begins in Case of Allegedly Illegally Acquired Property of Gagik Beglaryan

The Prosecutor's Office is demanding the confiscation of illegally acquired property and assets worth 16.8 billion drams from former Minister of Transport and Communications and former Mayor of Yerevan, Gagik Beglaryan, and associated persons.

A hearing on the Prosecutor's lawsuit commenced a short while ago in the Anti-Corruption Court, presided over by Judge Narine Avagyan. According to a statement from the Prosecutor's Office, the lawsuit seeks the confiscation of 33 apartments, plots, buildings, and parking spaces located in Yerevan, of which 11 are on Northern Avenue, 7 on Khorenatsi Street, 3 on Arshakunyats Avenue, 2 private houses on Azatutyun Avenue, and others scattered throughout different administrative areas of Yerevan. It also includes 2 plots of land in Kotayk Province (in Tsaghkadzor community) and 1 plot in Ararat Province (in Sis community), 1 vehicle (a MERCEDES-BENZ S600L), and should they be unreachable, the average market value which totals 10,704,483,825 Armenian drams.

In addition, according to the Prosecutor's Office, it also seeks the confiscation of the rights to participate in 10 legal entities, the claim to the unpaid part of an issued loan of 1,879,759,719 drams, 882,745,274.9 drams received from the use of illegally acquired property as income, and a remaining of 3,317,008,604 drams, which is not substantiated by the individual's legal income and has illegal origins, and thus cannot be confiscated based on Article 20, Clause 4 of the law on the confiscation of illegally acquired property.

It should be noted that Gagik Beglaryan is not participating in the court hearing. At the beginning of the session, the court attempted to clarify the positions of the parties regarding live broadcasting and filming of the session. Prosecutors did not raise any objections, while representatives of the Beglaryans objected to both live broadcasting and any other form of filming, and the court prohibited any filming.
