What is Planned to be Built Next to the Hrazdan Stadium? Sanosyan Responds
During a government meeting, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan announced that a new gymnastics school will be constructed adjacent to the Hrazdan Stadium.
“The community has already completed the competitive process; there is a design company that will soon carry out the design and construction of the sports school,” said Sanosyan.
According to him, the area is located next to the Hrazdan Stadium, opposite the Dalma Shopping Center. Currently, there are several sports facilities in this area. He emphasized that the new sports school will complement that array.
“There will be quite large halls, an underground parking lot, rooms designated for artistic gymnastics and sports acrobatics, sanitary facilities, and changing rooms. In other words, it will meet all specifications for both training and organizing international competitions,” Sanosyan noted.
He stated that the need for such a decision arose after the government decided in 2019 to renovate the building of the Albert Azaryan Olympic Reserve Children and Youth Gymnastics Sports School. However, studies revealed that the building constructed in the 1960s does not meet the standards of modern sports schools and requires significant financial resources for reconstruction, strengthening, and improving seismic resilience.
Instead, it was deemed more appropriate to build a new sports school in another location that complies with modern conditions and technical requirements, for which a land plot of 15,509.0 sq.m., located at address Hrazdan Gorge 4 and owned by the Hrazdan Sports Complex closed joint-stock company, was proposed.
Considering that the management rights to 100% of the company’s shares, which are state property, belong to the State Property Management Committee of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, based on today’s government decision, the aforementioned land plot will be separated from the property. It will first be secured to the State Property Management Committee and then will be donated to the city of Yerevan for the purpose of constructing a new sports base for the Albert Azaryan Olympic Reserve Children and Youth Sports School.
Previously, we reported that the State Cadastre Committee decided to “take away” the reserve land adjacent to the Hrazdan Stadium from businessman and former Republican Party MP Ashot Aghababyan (“Bournash”), who has been using it under rental for years. This was reported by the newspaper “Haykakan Zhamanak.”
