How Azerbaijanis Have Been Deployed in the Village of Tegh, Abrahamians Explains
The tense situation in Syunik and the activity of Azerbaijanis in the direction of the village of Tegh is due to changes in the route connecting Armenia with Artsakh. This was stated by Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the National Assembly from the 'I Have Honor' faction, on his Facebook page.
"Let me try to present it as clearly as possible: According to the agreements between the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the segment of the road that connected Armenia to Artsakh, passing through Berdzor and Aghavno, was changed in August-September 2022. It was planned that the bypass road would later enter Armenia not through the village of Tegh but through Kornidzor. However, the Armenian authorities did not construct that segment of the road, leaving Artsakh in a difficult position.
Later, with the mediation of Russia, Azerbaijan set a deadline of April 1, 2023, for Armenia to construct the road, establishing a temporary road of 4.7 km that again provided access to Armenia through the village of Tegh, bypassing Berdzor and Aghavno. As of April 1, movements from Artsakh to Armenia can only occur through Kornidzor, meaning that the corridor and its 5 km buffer zone have been relocated from the village of Tegh to Kornidzor.
Currently, Azerbaijan is conducting deployment and positioning operations in the 5 km area of the village of Tegh where they previously had no presence, as it was part of the corridor.
What is Armenia's problem? The Armenian authorities, having an agreement or at least being aware of the timeline for the changes to the route connecting Armenia with Artsakh, did not timely deploy the army or the border guard units in that area. Azerbaijan has taken advantage of this opportunity and positioned itself on favorable heights along the border, while due to the criminal inaction of the Armenian authorities, the border guards will later be forced to deploy under unfavorable conditions, thus creating a neutral inter-zone at the expense of Armenian territory,” he wrote.
