Student from the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Assaults Department Head
Reports have emerged that on March 27, a 72-year-old resident of Kotayk province, Harutyun Babayan, filed a complaint with the Central Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia. He stated that on the same day, around 14:00, he was assaulted in his office at the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports by 21-year-old Albert Nikolyan, a resident of Yerevan, during an argument over academic issues, which resulted in physical pain.
This information was confirmed in a conversation with Auroranews by the head of the Public Relations and Information Department of the police, Zarzand Gabrielyan.
Officers from the Central Police Department arrived at the scene, led by the department head, Ervand Nikoyan. Thanks to the explanatory work of the police, around midnight, A. Nikolyan voluntarily presented himself to the Police Headquarters, where he was arrested on reasonable suspicion of physical assault and was presented to the Investigative Committee of Armenia’s Yerevan investigative department, where proceedings were initiated regarding the incident.
According to reports, H. Babayan works as a department head at the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, while A. Nikolyan is a student at the same institute.
Note: The person suspected of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law of criminal procedure of the Republic of Armenia by a court decision that has entered into legal force.
