Eiffel Tower Closed to Visitors Due to Nationwide Strike

The Eiffel Tower has closed its doors to visitors due to a nationwide strike in France concerning pension reforms. This was stated in a communiqué published on the official website of the Paris landmark.

"Due to the nationwide strike, the Eiffel Tower is currently closed," the message reads.

It is worth noting that France passed a law on March 16 to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. The document was approved by the parliament without a vote.

French President Emmanuel Macron had threatened to dissolve the National Assembly if there weren’t enough votes for the pension reforms.

At the same time, protests against the pension reforms have taken place across France. According to the Ministry of the Interior, about 500,000 people participated in the demonstrations.
