Second Cold War Will Be More Dangerous Than the First, Says Former US Secretary of State
The second Cold War will be more dangerous than the first, stated former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
“Yes,” Kissinger said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper Mundo when asked if the second Cold War would be more dangerous than the first.
The former Secretary of State noted that a new Cold War could begin between China and the United States. Kissinger believes that both countries have comparable economic resources, something that was not the case during the first Cold War. In his opinion, Beijing and Washington are adversaries now, and there is no point in “waiting for China to become Westernized.”
Earlier, during a meeting with Kissinger, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had stated that the beginning of a “new Cold War” between China and the US would be a disaster for the entire world. He emphasized that “Washington must return to a rational and pragmatic policy towards China, adhere to the principles of the three joint communiqués, and maintain the political foundation of China-US relations.”
