Saakashvili Awarded Lind Brekke Prize for Democracy and Human Rights in Norway

The former President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, has been awarded the Lind Brekke Prize for Democracy and Human Rights, established by Sjur Lindbrekke, co-founder of Norway's Conservative Party. The awards ceremony took place in Oslo, attended by Saakashvili's mother, Julie Alasania, and his son, Nikoloz Saakashvili. Saakashvili shared the news on Facebook.

“It is a great honor for me to receive an award from a country that stands at the highest level of human rights and democracy in the fight for human rights and democracy,” wrote Saakashvili.

According to the former President of Georgia, this award should prompt reflection among all those who do not consider his “shameful imprisonment” a matter of “democracy and human rights.”

As reported by Novosti-Georgia, the award committee noted in a statement that Georgia is currently facing a complex situation due to the conflict between pro-Russian and pro-European forces. Saakashvili received the award for his contributions to human rights, political and economic freedoms, and the development of democratic institutions.
