It Was a Tough Game, Not Easy: Turkey National Team Head Coach

The head coach of the Turkey national team, Stefan Kuntz, shared his impressions in a post-match press conference following the away victory against the Armenian national team in the first round of Group D of the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament.

“We started the game with three central defenders, but we were struggling to make passes to the midfielders. We expected that the match against the Armenian national team would be exciting and that the Armenian side would play emotionally. When a coach is new, it also affects what happens on the field. Overall, I can say it was a tough game; it wasn’t easy. We made many individual mistakes that we need to assess. During the match, we switched to a four-defender scheme, which allowed us to regain control of the game. As the visiting side, I think we won as a result of a tough battle, and we are happy about that,” the German specialist stated, as reported by vnews.am.

It is worth noting that in the match held at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium, the Turkey national team won with a score of 2-1. Group D of the Euro 2024 qualifiers also includes Croatia, Wales, and Latvia. The Armenian national team will play a friendly match against Cyprus on March 28 in Yerevan. On the same day, the Turks will compete against the Croatian national team in a qualifying match. The team led by Alexander Petrakov will host the Welsh national team in their next game in the Euro 2024 qualifying Group D on June 16.
