Extraordinary Council Elections in Sisian and Ani Communities
Today, extraordinary council elections are taking place in Sisian, Syunik Province, and Ani community in Shirak Province, according to the Central Electoral Commission.
The Ani community in Shirak Province includes 33 electoral districts and comprises 20 precincts, while the Sisian community in Syunik Province has 41. All 61 polling stations established for the elections opened at 8:00 AM in accordance with the procedures defined by the Armenian Electoral Code and welcomed the first voters. All polling stations are equipped with cameras. The progress of the elections can be followed live on the CEC website.
As of March 19, 2023, the number of voters in the Sisian community is 22,880, while in the Ani community it is 15,918.
In the Ani community of Shirak Province, candidates are from the “Nation-Community” alliance (composed of the Democratic Liberal Union of Armenia and the Reformist Party), “My Powerful Community,” “Armenian Dream,” and “Civil Contract” parties. In the Sisian community of Syunik Province, candidates include the Republican Party of Armenia, “Civil Contract,” and the “Citizen's Decision” Social Democratic Party.
A total of 15 media outlets and one organization conducting an observation mission have been accredited to follow the elections, along with one alliance.
CEC members Anna Grigoryan, Silva Markosyan, and Zhirayr Karapetyan will oversee the polling stations in the Sisian community throughout the day, while CEC member Arusyak Tertchyan and CEC Secretary Armen Sambatyan will be present at the polling stations in Ani community.
The number of voters participating in the elections will be published on the Central Electoral Commission's website every three hours starting from 12:00 PM today, by community.
