Ministry of Justice of Armenia Registers Russian Orthodox Church Yerevan-Armenia Diocese

The Ministry of Justice of Armenia has registered the Russian Orthodox Church Yerevan-Armenia Diocese. This information was shared by the temporary head of the diocese, Metropolitan Leonid.

“On March 23, 2023, the Ministry of Justice of Armenia officially registered the diocese. We have been working towards this for several years, meticulously coordinating the legal details required by Armenian legislation and the canon laws and provisions of our church,” he wrote on his telegram channel.

Metropolitan Leonid recently arrived in Armenia, where he celebrated a liturgy in Yerevan and interacted with clergy and believers. On March 13, he met with His Holiness Catholicos Garegin II.

On March 15, it became known that the Russian Orthodox Church’s Armenian Diocese submitted documents to the Ministry of Justice to obtain state registration. Previously, Garegin II welcomed the opening of the Russian Orthodox Church’s representation in Armenia, noting that unfortunately, the issue had been prolonged.

After his visit to Armenia, Metropolitan Leonid wrote on his telegram channel that, finally, after a long time, they managed to bring the diocese's charter into agreement with the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.
