Medvedev: 'This is a Basis for the Use of All Means of Defense'

The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, has warned that Ukraine's attempts to reclaim Crimea will serve as a basis for the use of any weapon, including those outlined in nuclear doctrine. This information was reported by the TASS agency.

“If we talk about serious attacks related to attempts to retake Crimea, it is absolutely clear that this will serve as a basis for the use of all means of defense, including those provided for under the fundamental doctrine of nuclear deterrence, when any type of weapon used against Russia threatens the very existence of the state,” Medvedev said in an interview with Russian media.

He clarified that “the attempt to tear a part of the state away means that this is an encroachment on the very existence of the state.”

“Therefore, draw your own conclusions: there are clearly grounds for the use of any weapon here. Absolutely any,” the Security Council Deputy Chairman stated, expressing hope that all 'friends' of Russia across the ocean understand this.

Moreover, Medvedev believes that Ukraine's statements about 'returning' Crimea are largely propaganda. “Various statements about returning Crimea or something else… you understand, this is propaganda, and it should be treated as such, and this always exists during wartime,” noted the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.
