“As Soon as the West and the EU Appeared on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Border, Large-Scale Problems Began” – Zakharova

During a weekly press briefing, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, addressed the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiation process and responded to a journalist's question regarding whether Moscow believes the resolution issue has reached a deadlock. She stated, “We are genuinely concerned about the hostile rhetoric, the increase in incidents, and the parties' unwillingness to find a compromise, especially regarding the situation in the Lachin corridor. There is no alternative to the peace process. We urge the parties to exercise restraint in their statements and actions and to restore all negotiation avenues, including unblocking communications, delimitation, and more.”

Zakharova also discussed the EU and declared, “As soon as the West and the EU appeared on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, large-scale problems began immediately. Behind calls for peace and assistance, we are witnessing contrary actions from the West in reality.”

She further commented on U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s remarks, who stated that peace could be achieved between Armenia and Azerbaijan and that progress is being made. “Let’s analyze not the possibilities, but the real existing actions. We are open to comments, but there is still nothing to comment on,” Zakharova noted.
