Assad Explains Why Syrians Are Joining the Fight Against Ukraine: Russia's Victory Will Help Us

The President of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, has not ruled out that some Syrians are fighting in Ukraine on behalf of Russia, according to TASS.

The president reminded that when the war began in Syria, there were many volunteers, not just from Syrians. “Many people came to help the Syrian government. If Syrian volunteers assist you against Ukraine, they will not come through the government. They will come on their own and do so without political instructions. I know that many Syrians have such a desire,” he said.

In an exclusive interview with Solovyov Live, the footage of which was aired on the Rossiya-1 television channel and Watch platform, Assad stated, “I don’t know, maybe some volunteers are already there, I have no information about this,” he emphasized.

According to the Syrian president, Syrians support the Russian army just as the Russian army has supported the Syrian one. He added that citizens of the Republic are well aware that the victory of their friendly country, Russia, will help the Syrian people.

“If your friend is strong, you are strong. And we understand that the fighting there affects the international arena. And now it negatively impacts us. And if the international order changes, it will positively affect us…” said the Syrian leader.
