We must finally have the will to confront reality; we are talking about the statehood of Armenia, about the existence of our statehood, and the army is a crucial component of that. This was stated today, on March 15, by Defense Minister Suren Papikyan during the meeting of the Defense and Security Committee of the National Assembly, addressing the question of the existence of the fifth column in the army.

“If there are problems and detrimental phenomena in the army, and the opposition can talk about it every day, it is because the demand or perhaps the order is about that, because it weakens the viability of our statehood. And yes, those who weaken the viability of our statehood, calling them the fifth column is mild; it resembles treason much more,” declared Papikyan.

The minister posed a question: if a person is a traitor, should we not talk about the traitor? “Does it bring us honor that there are traitors among us, or could any officer of the Armed Forces complain that ‘why do you expose our traitors?’ The least expected is that instead of being subjected to public condemnation, you say, ‘our traitors are cuddly, keep them secret’. No, it should be made public and be uprooted from our society. Traitors have no place in the army; the fifth column has no business in the Armed Forces,” noted Suren Papikyan.

We recall that the day before, during a press conference, Nikol Pashinyan stated that in his opinion, we lost the war because the fifth column acted within our army.
