Movement of Azerbaijani Armed Forces and Heavy Equipment Observed Along the Contact Line in Armenia and Artsakh: Tovmasyan

The Chair of the Permanent Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs of the National Assembly, Taguhi Tovmasyan, writes: There are accumulations of Azerbaijani armed forces and heavy equipment at the borders of Armenia and Artsakh, representing a serious danger and threat of war. I have sent urgent letters to all my international partners.

Movement of Azerbaijani armed forces and heavy equipment is observed along the entire contact line, both in Armenia and Artsakh, visible even to the residents of border communities. I have addressed urgent letters to all my international partners, alerting them to serious threats to relative stability in the region posed by Azerbaijan, as well as Azerbaijan's territorial ambitions. These ambitions are expressed through Aliyev’s expansionist rhetoric, which refers to the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia as 'Western Azerbaijan' and Artsakh as 'Azerbaijan,' as well as the blockade of Artsakh for nearly 100 days, resulting in severe humanitarian consequences, and the accumulation of heavy equipment by Azerbaijani armed forces along the contact lines of both the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh.

The absence of appropriate actions by the international community or their insincere condemnations only contribute to the continuation of Azerbaijan’s aggression and genocidal policies. It is a fact that Azerbaijan not only grossly violates several principles of international law but also fails to comply with the International Court of Justice's requirement to guarantee the unhindered movement of citizens, vehicles, and cargo in both directions across the Berdzor corridor.

I have requested from international partners to take effective and preventive measures to help prevent the planned possible escalation by Azerbaijan and to ensure that a new genocide against Armenians does not take place.

P.S. I hope that the EU observers deployed along the entire border of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian peacekeeping forces monitoring the borders of Artsakh will correctly assess the situation on the ground, leading to corresponding punitive consequences.
