Israel's Haifa to Install Armenian Genocide Memorial Amid Turkey's Objections
The authorities of Haifa, Israel, have decided to install a memorial for the Armenian Genocide in one of the city's central squares. This was reported by the Turkish opposition media "OdaTV," referencing an article by Raphael Sadi published on the Israeli site "Ynet."
The author of the article expressed concern about this decision, noting that such a move by local authorities could provoke a diplomatic scandal in the newly normalized Turkish-Israeli relations.
Raphael Sadi also reported that Turkey's ambassador to Israel, Shakir Ozkan Torunlar, formally wrote to Israel's Minister of Culture and Sport, Miki Zohar, requesting assistance in halting the initiative to install the memorial. Zohar has forwarded the letter to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where consultations on the matter have taken place.
