Agriculture in the EU Represents 1.5-2% of GDP, While in Armenia It Stands at 7-8% - Kerobian
The gross agricultural output in Armenia is steadily increasing, with significant growth recorded in 2021 and 2022. Economy Minister Vahan Kerobian shared this during an interview with NEWS.am.
“This year we have already initiated and will complete the digitization of the main elements of agriculture, and we are finalizing the identification of large cattle. We need to ensure that by the end of the year, we have the infrastructure that will allow us to access all the key data related to agriculture. It is important to note that significant structural changes are currently taking place in agriculture; we are moving towards more intensive farming methods and new technologies. However, in agriculture, when you plant a tree, the results come after five years, therefore, it is unrealistic to expect growth in agriculture within one or two years,” he stated.
According to Kerobian, agriculture currently has a larger share in GDP than in developed countries. “In the EU, agriculture accounts for 1.5-2% of GDP, while in our case, it is around 7-8%. Naturally, with the faster growth of other industrial sectors, the share of agriculture will decrease,” the minister added.
