VIDEO. Azerbaijan Wants Mandate for Committing Genocide in Artsakh with Armenia's Signature: Pashinyan
Recently, Armenia received an offer from Azerbaijan regarding the proposed peace treaty. This was announced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a press conference on March 14.
He recalled that in mid-February, Armenia had sent its latest response to Azerbaijan regarding the peace treaty draft, noting that Azerbaijan's reaction to Armenia's proposal was received just 2-3 days prior. "What can I say about this document? Is there progress in this document? It should be emphasized that we see certain progress. But as much as we see progress, fundamental issues also become apparent. What are these fundamental issues?
We see that Azerbaijan is trying to establish territorial claims against the Republic of Armenia through a possible peace treaty, which is, of course, a red line for us.
We see that they are attempting to obtain a mandate to commit genocide or ethnically cleanse in Nagorno-Karabakh, including with the signature of the Republic of Armenia. This, of course, is also a red line for us.
We also see that Azerbaijan is pursuing a line where we do not have a system of guarantees for the implementation of the contract, which is also a red line for us. Because we currently have a signed and published document that is not being implemented. We are talking about the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020.
According to that statement, the Lachin corridor should not be closed in any way, yet the Lachin corridor is closed. Therefore, this further highlights Armenia's sensitivity on the issue that any document that is signed must have guarantees for implementation, preferably international guarantees," he said.
The Prime Minister added that this reflects Armenia's perception of the proposals presented by Azerbaijan, which cannot be unfounded.
