Relations Must Be Regulated As Soon As Possible: Scholz to Aliyev
Germany is concerned about the unstable situation along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Berlin today.
“The situation is not stable in the long term and carries risks of further escalations,” he noted. He emphasized that Germany is ready to offer its support in finding a long-term and feasible solution regarding the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh for the benefit of the local population.
“Our joint goal should be to find a long-term and feasible solution to this conflict for the benefit of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh,” he stated, adding that the peaceful resolution of the conflict must be based on the respect for the territorial integrity of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Speaking about the deployment of the European Union's civilian mission (EUMA) in Armenia, the head of the German government noted that Berlin supports this and ensures the mission's leadership. As Chancellor Scholz summarized, the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan should take place as soon as possible.
