Iran's Foreign Ministry Comments on Military Aircraft Flight Along Azerbaijan-Iran Border
The official spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani, commented during a press conference on the invitation extended to Iran's ambassador in Azerbaijan by the Foreign Ministry.
He stated that the ambassador's invitation was related to the flight of an aircraft within Iranian territory. "It was a regular flight conducted in areas bordering Iran and within the framework of monitoring. Such flights have been carried out before. The flight occurred at a considerable distance from the Azerbaijani border, within Iran's airspace. Generally, in situations where a technical malfunction occurs, radars and defensive networks provide the necessary warnings. No radar warnings were received regarding this flight, which indicates that there was no error," Kanaani emphasized.
He added that Iran has relationships with Azerbaijan in the defense sector, with an embassy in operation and a liaison from the Ministry of Defense. Kanaani suggested that if Baku had goodwill in this regard, the issue could have been resolved with the presence of the defense ministry's liaison at the embassy, allowing for a resolution of any misunderstandings within that framework.
"We are neighbors with Azerbaijan, and we share historical ties. We expect honest cooperation and discussion of specialized topics to find solutions in specialized frameworks. We have repeatedly emphasized, and once again reaffirm, that discussing contentious topics in the media does not contribute to resolving the issue and is not a demonstration of goodwill," Kanaani stated.
