Former MP Gevorg Petrosyan Released from Custody
Gevorg Petrosyan, former MP, lecturer at Yerevan State University, and civil law department associate professor, has been released from custody, as reported by his lawyer Raffi Aslanyan.
“Gevorg Petrosyan has been released by the decision of the investigator. It is clear to me that the evidence collected does not confirm the suspicion of violence against the patrol officers,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
It is noteworthy that early in the morning, Gevorg Petrosyan stated that he was arrested on a ridiculous charge. Later, lawyer Aslanyan announced that Petrosyan was detained on suspicion of directly committing violence against patrol officers with the intent to interfere with their lawful official activities.
The RA Police also reported that patrol officers noticed a Mercedes vehicle on the Abovyan-Yerevan highway where the driver was behaving erratically and attempted to stop him. The driver did not comply with the legal demand to stop, refused to undergo sobriety testing, threatened the officers, and fled the scene. Law enforcement chased the driver down Tsarav Aghbyur Street and ultimately managed to forcibly stop the vehicle. A criminal case has been initiated in relation to the incident.
