What Issue is Armenia Solving? Abrahamyan on Armenia's Refusal of the CSTO Deputy Secretary General Quota
Deputy of the 'I Have Honor' faction Tigran Abrahamyan writes on his Facebook page: “According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Armenia has submitted a relevant proposal to the CSTO to refuse the quota for the position of Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO. I would like to note that the positions of the three deputies of the CSTO Secretary General are rotational.
What is Armenia doing? First, by this, Armenia is expressing its attitude towards the political line of the CSTO. Second, it shows that it is lowering the political level of relations with the organization. Third, I have the impression that with this step, Armenia is starting a process of distancing itself from the CSTO or giving new impetus to an earlier initiated course.
Let’s get to the key issue: what problem is Armenia solving? Is it showing resentment, gritting its teeth, or is there an alternative system to choose from? Perhaps the high probability of a new explosion in the region is urging this, but what calculations are behind it?”
