Death Toll from Earthquake in Turkey Exceeds 47,000
The death toll from the earthquake that struck southeastern Turkey on February 6 has exceeded 47,000. This was announced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
‘The disaster of the century has affected the lives of approximately 14 million citizens across 10 provinces in one way or another. More than 47,000 citizens have lost their lives, and over 115,000 have been injured and rescued,’ Erdoğan said.
According to him, the number of collapsed and at-risk buildings exceeds 270,000. Authorities plan to build around 244,000 new apartment buildings and 75,000 rural homes for the affected population within the year.
