Canada Bans Import of Aluminum and Steel Products from Russia
The Canadian authorities have decided to ban the import of aluminum and steel from Russia, as reported by the Canadian Ministry of Finance, citing the decision of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland.
The Ministry of Finance noted that this move aims to restrict the flow of revenue to the Russian budget amid the ongoing situation surrounding Ukraine.
The agency clarified that the ban applies to all aluminum products, including raw aluminum and aluminum of sheet form, as well as finished products. The import of iron, non-alloyed steel, semi-finished products, and finished products, including pipes, is also prohibited.
The Ministry of Finance reminded that in 2021, Canada imported $45 million worth of aluminum from Russia and $213 million worth of Russian steel products.
