Footage: Flag of the Democratic Republic of Georgia Seen in Downtown Tbilisi
During protests near the parliament building in downtown Tbilisi, the flag of the Democratic Republic of Georgia was spotted, as reported by an RTVI correspondent.
This flag was used from 1990 to 2004. The color gold symbolized the country's bright past and joy, the black stripe represented the tragic period in Georgia's history under Russian domination, and the white reflected the peaceful development and hope of the nation.
The flag was publicly raised for the first time on March 25, 1917, in Kutaisi during a local gathering of the Georgian National Democratic Party. It continued to be used as the state flag by Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement until 2004.
The current flag of Georgia was adopted only in 2004.
