The Information Disseminated by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry is Completely Fake and Lacks a Factual Basis: Armenian Foreign Ministry

On March 7, the Azerbaijani defense ministry released another statement aimed at misleading the international community, alleging that on the same day, a convoy of Armenian military equipment had passed through the Stepanakert-Ghaibalishen-Lisagor road accompanied by Russian peacekeepers, and that Armenian military personnel had also been transported via the same route.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry officially emphasizes that this information is entirely false, lacks, and cannot have any factual basis or relation to reality.

With such 'loud revelations', Azerbaijan is attempting to divert international attention from:

  1. The terrorist act carried out by its armed forces on March 5, which resulted in the death of three employees of the passport service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Nagorno-Karabakh, with one employee injured;
  2. The fact that it has not complied with the legally binding decision of the International Court of Justice regarding the Lachin corridor and continues to keep the Lachin corridor closed contrary to that decision;
  3. Its failure to fulfill its international obligations regarding the Lachin corridor as outlined in the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020.

In order to divert international attention from these obvious facts, Azerbaijan has adopted a strategy of disinformation and escalating tension, attempting to create false informational grounds not only for new aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh but also against the Republic of Armenia.

Moreover, Azerbaijan continues to portray Armenia as extremely pro-Russian in the West, while presenting it as extremely pro-Western in Russia to 'justify' this policy.

Armenia has repeatedly stated that no ammunition or military goods have been transported through the Lachin corridor, both before its blockade and after December 12, 2022. Furthermore, we reaffirm that the Republic of Armenia does not have an army in Nagorno-Karabakh.

To verify the authenticity of this information, the proposal to send an international fact-finding mission to Nagorno-Karabakh has been repeatedly rejected by the highest leadership of Azerbaijan.

Reaffirming Armenia’s commitment to achieving peace in the region, we once again emphasize the urgent need to send an international fact-finding mission to Nagorno-Karabakh and the Lachin corridor to prevent Azerbaijan from unleashing new aggression and to halt Azerbaijan's obvious preparations to subject the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to ethnic cleansing and genocide.
