Millions of Dollars Spent to Build a Metro in Four Years, for What Purpose... Mkrak Melikyan Releases Statistics
It is clear that the only agenda of the city authorities is the construction of a new metro station, and therefore I decided to address its effectiveness. This was stated by Mesrop Arakelyan, co-founder of the 'Country of Living' party, on his Facebook page.
“Let's assume the metro station is being constructed. It is possible that our team's mayor will decide not to waste the government's $5 million expenditure on the project and will build the new station in about 4-5 years. Let's take a look at the current situation regarding transportation. According to calculations from the municipal government, 10.5% of transportation users benefit from the metro, and that figure will rise to 12.5% with the opening of the new station. This means that only an additional 12,000 people will use the metro daily out of the 600,000 people who use public transport. Thus, the new metro station will only change the lives of 2% of the transportation users. The remaining 98% will continue to use transport as they have until now.
In Yerevan, 535,000 people do not use the metro and rely on other means of transportation. After the new metro, the number of non-metro users will stand at 523,000 people. I want to understand,” he wrote.
