51-Year-Old Man Intentionally Hit Ex-Wife in Kapan with Car, Suspected of Murder
On March 6, 2023, at 17:20, the Syunik regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee received a report that on the same day, around 13:30, a 51-year-old resident of Kapan had intentionally hit his former wife with his Mercedes car, aiming to unlawfully take her life. The incident occurred near one of the buildings in the Dzorq neighborhood of Kapan, causing bodily injuries to the woman, after which the man fled the scene, leaving her helpless.
On the same day, Kapan Medical Center reported that the woman had been admitted with diagnoses of “concussion, laceration wounds on the right and left extremities.” The Syunik regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case under part 2, point 9 of Article 155 of the RA Criminal Code. The former wife of the 51-year-old man has been recognized as a victim, and a forensic examination has been appointed.
The 51-year-old resident of Kapan has been arrested based on grounded suspicion. It should be noted that the man was previously found guilty by a verdict dated May 30, 2014, for firing shots towards his ex-wife's face and head with a pneumatic pistol during a dispute over family matters on March 13 of the same year, causing minor harm to her health, for which he was sentenced to a fine. In another verdict issued on September 23, 2016, he was acquitted of charges related to threatening to kill his wife as a form of psychological coercion, which had caused feelings of fear, anxiety, and distress.
The investigation is ongoing.
