This was stated by Arthur Davtyan, the bronze medalist from the Tokyo Olympic Games and world and European champion, during a conversation with reporters at the Zvartnots Airport. He has won two gold medals in the first two stages of the 2023 World Cup. The world champion returned to his homeland with the Armenian team from Doha last night.

“I participated well in both stages. I have started the year well. After Doha, the other participants were heading to Baku for the third stage, but as is known, we will not be going. The fourth stage will take place in Cairo, right before the European Championship. Here too, I will do everything to return with a gold medal. This year it was a bit difficult to start the season. Being the reigning world champion, one tries not to tarnish that title. It was a bit challenging to gather myself after the World Championship. I wasn’t in bad shape during the World Cup stages; I’m happy I was able to achieve two victories. I hope the year continues like this. We have an important competition ahead – the European Championship, which will be held in Turkey. Soon we will hold the Armenian championship and then head to Georgia for a training camp, from there to Antalya. We need to prepare very seriously to perform well and return with medals. I will do everything to come back from Turkey with a gold medal,” said Arthur Davtyan.

The leader of the Armenian national team has been unbeaten in the pole vault discipline during the World Cup stages in Kothbus and Doha.
