VIDEO: First Case of Measles Imported to Armenia from Abroad, Avanesyan Details
In Armenia, among those hospitalized with measles, 15 are children and 5 are adults. These figures were presented during a press conference by the Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan.
According to the minister, it is crucial for the public to be aware of the symptoms of measles and to seek medical attention immediately upon their onset. “Our research shows that the first case of measles has been imported to Armenia from abroad. The patient was a child, after which others were also infected,” stated the minister.
Avanesyan mentioned that she has established a working group that is implementing measures as outlined in the infectious disease response plan. In this context, certain changes are also being made to activate vaccinations stipulated in the national calendar.
“Early detection of measles, clear identification of contacts, and preventive vaccination of contacts within 72 hours, as well as their isolation, are very important,” added the minister.
It is noteworthy that vaccinations against measles are scheduled for children at the ages of 1 and 6 in the national vaccination calendar. The ministry urges the parents of children who have not received planned vaccinations against measles to visit the registration polyclinic and vaccinate their children. At the same time, individuals who have been in contact with measles patients and have not received 2 doses of the measles vaccine are also subject to vaccination.
Measles is a highly contagious acute viral disease characterized by rash, dry cough, fever, and so on. The infection is transmitted through airborne routes.
