Details of Diversionary Attack Presented to Foreign Diplomats at Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Today, a meeting took place at the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs involving Deputy Minister Vahe Gevorgyan and the Republic of Armenia's representative for international legal issues, Yeghishe Kirakosyan, with the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Armenia and representatives of international organizations.
The Deputy Minister presented to the foreign diplomats the details of the diversionary attack carried out by the Azerbaijani armed forces in Nagorno-Karabakh on March 5, which resulted in the deaths of three officers from the Passport and Visa Department of the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Internal Affairs, with one other being injured.
Vahe Gevorgyan emphasized that the aforementioned diversionary attack, which constitutes a gross violation of the ceasefire regime established by the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, was premeditated by Azerbaijan.
Participants were shown a video published by the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh, which proves the unfounded nature of Azerbaijan’s claims. He also highlighted that the diversionary operation was directed against a non-military target.
The attention of the foreign diplomats was drawn to the fact that for more than two weeks, Azerbaijan's authorities have been grossly disregarding the legally binding decision of the International Court of Justice regarding the opening of the Latchin corridor. The occurrence of this terrorist act in the context of this unfulfilled ruling indicates that Azerbaijan has become a malicious violator of international law.
Vahe Gevorgyan stressed that Azerbaijan repeatedly resorts to the use of force to intimidate and impose unilateral preferential solutions, and that such recurring incidents demonstrate that only the existence and involvement of a clear international mechanism can ensure successful dialogue between Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh.
Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the representative for international legal issues, added that the ruling of the International Court of Justice mandates Azerbaijan to ensure unhindered movement through the Latchin corridor in both directions, as well as the cessation of illegal activities in the Latchin corridor and the restoration of gas and electricity supplies to Nagorno-Karabakh.
It was noted that only targeted evaluations and clear actions from the international community can help restrain Azerbaijan's aggressive policies and support efforts to establish stability and long-term peace in the region.
